Luc Alvarado
Lead Instructor, Data Analytics

Luc Alvarado is the first Lead Instructor for the inaugural cohort of the Data Analytics Fellowship, where they teach promising young data analysts to transform complex data into actionable insights. They facilitate learning that bridges technical skills—like Python, SQL, and data visualization—with real-world industry applications, preparing Fellows for purpose-driven careers in tech.
Before joining Marcy, Luc spent over eight years as a data scientist at companies like Lyft and TeachersPayTeachers, where they developed frameworks for customer analytics and scaled data infrastructure. Their passion for education emerged through teaching at-risk teen girls to code with Girls Who Code and developing multilingual programming for recently immigrated adolescents at the Beam Center.
Outside of Marcy, Luc can be found making things—whether sewing, printmaking, or throwing ceramic pottery. They're also an avid cyclist who volunteered at the Iowa City Bike Library, helping community members learn to repair their own bikes, embodying their belief that supporting skill-building for individuals strengthens communities and improves lives.
